DeKalb County Amateur Radio Club

Welcome to the exciting world of Amateur Radio! This well-established and organized hobby consists of people from various backgrounds and age groups without regard to territorial boundaries.   We have the privilege to earn a license granted from the Federal Communications Commission to utilize the airwaves for many hours of experimentation, public service and rag chew enjoyment.

The DeKalb County Amateur Radio Club (DCARC) welcomes you to join our club.   Active for over 25 years, here are just a few of our club’s features:

· DCARC-maintained repeaters, W4DGH/R on 2 meters (147.27 MHz; +600 KHz offset; 100 Hz tone) and W4OZK/R on 70 centimeters (444.625 MHz; +5 MHz offset; 141 Hz tone) are both open and located on Lookout Mountain above Fort Payne.   The 2 meter repeater is analog FM only, but the 70 centimeter machine is configured to repeat both analog FM and Yaesu Sysyem Fusion C4FM digital signals. See also our Repeater page.

· The Club sponsors two nets: A weekly session of the Alabama Emergency Net Zulu (AENZ) training net on the 2 meter repeater at 7:30 PM Central Time each Monday, and the DeKalb County Practice Weather Net, hosted every Thursday night at 6:30 on the same repeater.

· Each June the club participates in a national amateur radio event called Field Day.   Field Day is a 24-hour emergency preparedness drill and contest to test our planning, communication and endurance skills.   The club also makes it a social event. See also the 2019 Field Day page.

· We also hold a tailgate/swap meet that brings out electronic equipment to buy, sell or trade in the spring or early summer. For a glimpse at past tailgate events see our hamfest/tailgate page.

· Monthly club meetings (except December) are held at 7:00 PM on the fourth Tuesday of the month on the second floor of the DeKalb County Activities Building, 111 Grand Avenue SW in Fort Payne.   The December meeting is usually on a different date, time and place.   Any changes will be announced during the weekly nets.

· The club has an Echolink node: #77000 (Jimmy Killian, coordinator).

Calendar year dues are $12.00; family membership is $20.00.   Please make checks payable to the DeKalb County Amateur Radio Club and mail correspondence P.O. Box 680652 Fort Payne, AL 35968.
